There has also been an increase in remodeling the family homes of adult children who prepare to have their parents or elderly members of their family live with them.

The National Association of Home Builders (NAHB) provides the educational tools, certification and continued education for builders and contractors seeking certification as an Age in Place specialist. The NAHB provides easy access to protocol changes and updating members of new guidelines in the housing industry.

GB General Contractors are Certified Renovators since 2010. Due to the EPA requirements for safe renovation, removing, remodeling and painting of surfaces pre-1978, a "Renovation Right" rule has been established (protecting against exposure risk) requiring builders and remodelers of the use of lead-safe work practices during renovations. The certification will become mandatory as of April 2010 for all building contractors and remodelers, focusing on housing and child occupied facilities.
